Do you really think the Lerners are going to spend the money it'll take to get one of those three if Dunn is still hitting 30-40 dingers a year, getting on base at a good clip, and showing even a mediocre glove at first? I doubt it, myself.Wombat Rampanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03701990675489671528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074246508221440257.post-57362909755820455422010-04-30T18:17:50.022-04:002010-04-30T18:17:50.022-04:00First base is the most loaded position in the leag...First base is the most loaded position in the league in FA: Adrian Gonzalez, Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols...Stevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14109288910583404941noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074246508221440257.post-67985193758919305162010-04-30T15:38:27.661-04:002010-04-30T15:38:27.661-04:00What Grover said - if there's no good lefty sl...What Grover said - if there's no good lefty slugger in the system, and there isn't a good one available for a reasonable salary in the free agent market, then it's obvious that we need to re-sign Dunn. Not for the retarded kind of contract the Phillies gave Howard, but maybe something loaded with incentives.Wombat Rampanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03701990675489671528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074246508221440257.post-32380216301545994472010-04-29T16:26:55.722-04:002010-04-29T16:26:55.722-04:00http://www.975thefanatic.com/teams/phillies/blogen...http://www.975thefanatic.com/teams/phillies/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10110558

Enough said.niggledorkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01810460832832907141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074246508221440257.post-87715897835815596152010-04-29T10:57:33.975-04:002010-04-29T10:57:33.975-04:00My concern in letting Dunn go is the lack of power...My concern in letting Dunn go is the lack of power available to the Nats in the minors or free agency. We are likely to roll out something like a Strasburg-Zimmermann-Lannan-Marquis- Wang/Detwiler type of rotation next season. It would be a shame not to pair that with a lineup that can score some runs. If they can get Dunn to sign another two-year deal I'd be delighted.Groverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04584530987186715656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074246508221440257.post-25900001090475678372010-04-29T09:55:00.011-04:002010-04-29T09:55:00.011-04:00I like Dunn a lot and I'll wish him well when ...I like Dunn a lot and I'll wish him well when he heads to Boston (either via trade of FA), but I very much hope he isn't in the line-up the next 3-4 years.

I think Marrero will be ready soon, but he's a power righty very similar to Willingham and our roster is already short on power lefties. I don't think Dunn is at that "avoid at all cost" level but he's probably getting into the "no more than a 2-yr deal" area.

(by the way - showing percentiles rather than deviation from average might make the drop in average clearer.)Harperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07738813756060133236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074246508221440257.post-57718908586216996732010-04-29T08:39:08.860-04:002010-04-29T08:39:08.860-04:00Excellent lesson in deeper stat analysis.
