Vote ABG--Anyone But Giambi

I'm taking a moment away from my regularly scheduled program to urge everyone not to vote for Jason Giambi for the all-star game.

As if we don't see enough Yankees and Red Sox every day anyway. First Jeter and his
.281-.343-.385 line gets voted in to start ahead of Micheal Young . OK fine, fans are dumb. Then they put Varitek and his -2.4 VORP in there. Jesus, that guy shouldn't even be starting, much less making the all-star team. And now they want us to vote for Giambi? Fooey.

First of all, anyone notice who's leading the AL East and all of major-league baseball? 55 wins? Eh, Rays get two.

Second, he's basically as agile as a trained circus bear defensively. He should be disqualified on that alone.

Third, Roberts in particular is far more deserving. Longoria is too, and if nothing else I'm voting for him to correct the Rays' snub. And if people want to rally around another big media market, Dye deserves it more than Giambi too. Jose Guillen doesn't belong in the AS Game either, but no one's going to vote for the Royal anyway.

Fourth, he's so clearly still on the juice.

Considering the size of the media market and the way fans vote for the home town players, you have to think he's the favorite. We who know that there is major league baseball played outside NY and Boston need to rally.

Vote ABG.

Remember when we were one of the best teams in baseball at the ASG in 2005 and only got 2 players: Chief and Livo? Same deal for the Rays. Hopefully their story ends better.

Jeter is Jeter. He's the face of the game.

Varitek was voted in by his fellow players, not the fans or Terry Francona. Not saying he should be within 100 miles of Yankee Stadium on Jul. 15, but still...

But I'm a huge Giambi fan. He and that mustache have something going.

I remember having one of the best records. I also remember having some completely unsustainable winning percentage in one-run games and a run differential that screamed "this team isn't this good."

If middle relievers ever got chosen for the AS game, then there are guys who might have made it, but they don't. And you could have made an argument for Jose Guillen, but you'd have been wrong.

I say thins not to dump on the Nationals. I swear I really am a Nationals fan but one of my pet peeves is the outsized romanticizing of that year that goes on. Yeah, the first half was great fun, but it was always a mirage, and it obscures the reality that most of the seeds of our current misery-as-far-as-the-eye-can-see were planted that year.

@salres--How's it feel for y'all Yank-Sox fans looking up at the Rays?

But I'm gagging on your "face of the game" nonsense. Let's see him catch Jeff Keppinger and Ryan Theriot in OPS and then we can talk.

You can vote for Giambi, but if your guys really would rather have him than Dye or Longoria or Roberts, that tells us all we need to know about why the Yankees are going to be sitting home in September.

I hadn't planned on participating in this vote. But now that you've suggested it, why not? So it's Giambi and his porn star mustache all the way! I think I'll even vote multiple times...

Ah ha, so JBF is a Yankee fan! That explains so much....

No, I'm not a Yankee fan. I just take whatever stupid recommendation you make and do the opposite. You're just too clueless to figure that out.
