Mother Nature Conspires to Send Strasburg to Seattle

Last night's rainout, plus yet another Seattle defeat, puts the Nationals another half-game behind the Mariners in the Strasburg Sweepstakes.

They now need the Mariners to win at least 2 games against the A's to even have a mathematical chance of getting the top pick. Seattle has lost an unbelievable 13 of their last 14.

Previously, the Nationals held the tie-breaker with Seattle (which is the previous year's record--because the Mariners had a better record in 2007, we hold the tie-breaker). With the Nationals now scheduled to play just 161 games, there will be no tie. Therefore because of last night's game cancellation, we need Seattle to lose two more game to get the pick, whereas we only needed one loss to get the top pick.

I've said all along that I'm not rooting for the Nationals to lose. But if we lose the top pick because of a game cancellation, that'll stick in my craw a bit.

The Mariners are so dysfunctional http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/26888002 that they might not even pick Strasburg if they had the first pick.
