More Me...

DC Metblogs asked me to write up some thoughts on the future of the Nationals post-Jim. Check it out here if you like. (BTW, that picture of Jim that Patrick copied from the WaPo--isn't that Mark Lerner with him? The Post id-ed it as Kasten too. Hard to tell with the sunglasses and cap.)

For the new blog name: How about FireScreech.com? Seriously, Screech is the new embarrassment to the Nats franchise now that Bowden is gone. The bird is terrible. I saw the new version outside Farragut North Metro today- he wistles at people. He doesn't talk but he whistles. It's still as awkward a mascot as I can think of. The blog could still be about the Nationals and also advocate burying that stupid bird would make the games more comfortable and entertaining for everyone.

I concur about firing Screech. He now looks like the cartoon character of the Peruvian Chicken place down the street from mother-in-law's house in Cochabamba, Bolivia. What is up with guerilla arms? Man, Screech certainly put on some muscle from last year. I think a steroid investigation is in order. Here I thought firing Manny Acta would be a good move, but we need to fire Screech first. Perhaps the Nats need to look at Slap Shot, the Capitals Mascot, to get some ideas on how to design an Eagle costume. Why does the mascot need to be an eagle anyway? Why not a panda or a cicada? Geez, and I thought the new uniforms were ugly. The Nats need a new Marketing Department.

Mascots are stupid, can't we just go without one at all? The last game I took my (now) 8 year old daughter to she saw screech and asked "Is that someone's JOB? Please don't ever do that!"

Steven, have you seen the new article on the Nats site about Kasten pursuing an extension with Zimmerman? I think it's very telling of the rift between Kasten and Bowden, and also it clears up the idea of Zimm's agent's ardent opposition to signing an extension.

Will, Zim hasn't signed anything yet, so don't jinx us! It is very telling that Zim's agent, Brodie Van Wagenen, said "I'm happy to have the meeting with Stan and am looking forward to the new direction the team is taking" (from Bill "IDIOT!" Ladsen).

I could be reading too much into one quote, but maybe not...

I really do think that the next month is going to be relentlessly fascinating.

I like that Kastan has made a fast move to ingratiate himself to Zimmerman's agent.

I would love to see someone old, slow and expensive moved for someone fast, young and cheap.
