To celebrate the occasion, let's cue of the highlight reel:
- Just this past weekend, Zimmerman snares a hot shot to his right, spins from foul territory to make a strong throw to nail the lead runner.
- Welcome home! Zimmerman christens the new stadium with a walk off winner on national TV.
- Pedro Feliz robbed on a hot liner.
- Ryan's first homer in months last summer after finally recovering from a power-zapping shoulder injury sparked a late season power surge in 2008 that told fans everywhere that he was back.
- Zim makes a great stop and long throw to nail Pat Burrell.
- And this little news clip...

He's earned it. Let's hope the bat keeps improving and the glove stays strong, but I'm glad we will have him for a long time.
In other news, they fired half the fucking bullpen today. That's gotta be pretty good news considering the guys coming up probably should have been here in the first place
I'm first in line to throw rocks at RZ for his throws from 3B that come up short at 1B, but just yesterday I replayed his inaugural HR in the first game at Nats Park on my TiVO. That never gets old.
I just hope he stays healthy and continues to improve. At age 24 there is always room for improvement.
Congrats to him.
If the report in NJ is true, Zim wanted a sixth year. Interesting if so, since with the current 5-year deal, he hits free-agency at 29.
Since he can test free-agency before hitting the onerous age of 30, he could thus still get a premium deal.
I still think his defense is over-rated. For every spectacular Brooks Robinson-esque play he makes, he seems to make Nick J dig a "routine" throw out of the dirt.
There's a pattern with fans of terrible teams. Their best players become the whipping boys. Adam Dunn was booed in Cincinnati. Fans turned on Milledge right quick here in DC. Nick as well. I look for it to happen with Zim now that he has a contract. It's a bummer, but a common pattern.
