I think firing Acta is the only move we need tonight.

How can you defend the move to take out Ross D for Alex C....that is the last straw.

Steven said...

The only defense is that 84 pitches is enough for Detwiler. I'm not making that case. I'm just saying that's the only defense.

Speaking of Detwiler... Rewilted. Lewd Rite. Wild tree.

I think the anagram for Detwiler is "Colome Sucks."

84 pitches for a 23 year old starter ..... Acta is a fool.

Pulling Det was the right move. He's on a limited pitch count and the organization is right to bring him along at a good pace. It's not like an extra inning or even 2 matters with this team.

I don't see how Acta finishes the season. This is a team that is achingly bad at the fundamentals. Saint isn't doing so hot with the bullpen implosion complete. Otoh, Martis is the pleasant surprise of the year.

Rizzo is pretty clearly not the answer as the Kensing move shows. It will be inexcusable if Bergmann is still in the minors by the end of the week. he may not be better but he can't be worse as Mock/Colome need some more time in Syracuse.

Steven said...

Remember, Bergmann was sent down to make room for Kensing. Rizzo has some irrational hatred for Jay. He should just let him go to another team.

Just as long as Rob Dibble gets to keep his job. He's one of the few things making the beatings worth watching.

Tough to find anything positive to say about this organization.
I'm not going to bitch about the Redskins/Dan Snyder as much in the future, because now I know what completely inept really means. This team is the Detroit Fucking Lions of baseball.

Oh, I know that Rizzo doesn't like Jberg. The organization has no faith in him otherwise he would have gotten the call. He's been more impressive than Mock in the spring, at Syracuse etc.

But Acta/Rizzo don't like him. As I recall, Bergy was up for several days before Acta went to him. Otoh, Mock is an Acta guy which is why Acta will go to him quickly even if Mock has thrown 25+ pitches the day before and 5 other guys are all rested.

One Ross D stat: I think he's averaging less than 5 in AA. I think it's better for him to go 5, have a great outing and get some confidence.

Finally, I used to hate Dibble. But his clowning is making this season more enjoyable. I love the fact he's disguested with this team. His "Oh My God." during the colome/Hernandez throw Sunday was classic. Dibble is just mystified at how bad this team is.

Four more errors... there is clearly no accountability here. They need to make a clean sweep of the coaching staff by June first, and send Cabrera with them.

It is really difficult to upgrade team the way they have with Dunn, Willingham, and healthy Zimm and Johnson, yet see the team regress from a 102 loss season.

That is truly defective leadership.

I know I am one of the few Manny Acta fans left. If he goes, who the heck replaces him?

It is easy for people to say fire Acta. Come on - get real. The bullpen problems are way beyond Manny.

Okay - if you were the manager tonight, what would you have done? And don't say leave Detwiler in because he was on a limited pitch count. Taking him out was the right thing. So after Detwiler...what would YOU have done with the crap in the bullpen???

Manny still sucks in spite of the horrible bullpen. This team has tuned him out and he is overmatched. Time to cut the cord.

I'm not about to fire Manny, but I will no longer give him the benefit of the doubt. We're now at the point where we're making change for the sake of change as long as it is not likely to make us get radically worse. The first step in that change is to give some of the boys from Syracuse a chance. Tonight Syracuse won. Why? Because MacDougal, Bergmann, and Clippard, all with ERAS under 2.00 I believe, could actually hold a lead. Of course holding a lead in AAA is different than the bigs, but I see more hope for those guys then the clowns we have at Nats Park.

For me, Manny's got until about the 80 game mark before I start to call for his head. You've got to give me a better manager who would actually take the job with this bullpen to fire him, though. Who do the Fire Manny people want?

The rumor in my section of the ballpark was about Nick Johnson to the Red Sox. Any ideas on feasible trades with Boston for Nick? I'd seriously think of trading Nick for a bullpen guy with a sub 4.20 ERA plus a B- prospect. Not sure what we get for Nick in the draft if he walks, though. He's a free agent next year.

Pitch count defense is just wrong. Acta said himself he could have left him out there....he did not want to give up and out during the rally.....SO WHAT IS PINCH HITTING ALEX C doing if not giving up an out.....ACTA is the problem....has been the problem for a long time.

What is best for the organization no longer matters, do something for ME. I have waded through this steaming pile of shit for five years and it continues to get deeper. Problem #1: Rizzo is still acting. Who the hell is in charge? Make Rizzo permanent and clean house (except Eckstein). Bring in the coaches and a manager up from the minors. How in the world could they get worse results?

flippin said...

Hey Ross! How was that cup of coffee? Tasted like shit didn't it?

How has St. Claire gone from a miracle worker to a chump in one post season. Could it be that this is just a terrible staff? How do you fix Cabrera? or Olson? Jesus Christ himself couldn't fix those guys.

Acta should never have pinch hit Cintron but, he is totally hog tied. If he leaves a crap player in he is two soft, if he bring in a different crap player he is tactically inept.

The Lerners don't like to eat salaries. That's why Manny Acta is still manager. He has not been offered an extension. Rizzo is till "acting" GM and that will likely continue for the rest of the season. Then, both of them will be gone.

I support the fire Clint movement.

A pitching coach with guts would have said something before letting his side of the team get completely gutted by an idiot GM and a rookie ownership group. Why didn't he step up and convince jackass Bowden to sign Crow and not Olsen and Cabrera.

Crow's first start this season (*small sample caveats apply):
5 innings
9 Ks
2 BB
2 Hits
1 Win
0 Runs

Thank God we didn't pay that extra $900,000 to sign him. That would have been a waste of money, eh?

I don't know where to point the finger anymore. This team is comprehensively bad; nothing is working. So how can you blame just the coaches, when the players go out there everyday and make boneheaded errors, throw wild pitches, strike out on three pitches, etc. There's only so much coaches can do, and you can see it on Manny's face. It's not apathy you see, it's him thinking, "Oh my god. They managed to blow ANOTHER game?!"

And it's not like he's putting in the wrong pitcher in the wrong situation (at least most of the time). EVERY SINGLE pitcher in the bullpen has had a significant role in fucking everything up. Even the "good" guys like Beimel. So whether its Colome, Rivera or Mock. They're all more likely than not to give up several runs.

We've had similar pitching staffs in the past. Jason Simontacchi, Mike Bacsik, Matt Chico, Micah Bowie, Billy Traber, Jerome Williams, Levale Speigner, Chris Schroder. Do you rememer our pitching staff in 2007? If you had asked me before the season started I'd have easily preferred our staff this year. But for some reason, it worked in '07 and isn't working in '09. So the real question is why is it not working? Beats me, but someone needs to figure out the answer quick.

I do fault Acta for his inexplicable confidence in Alex Cintron and other shitty PHers. This guy was never good and will never be good, so I'm confused as to why Acta doesn't see that. Granted, before this year Acta was never in a situation where he had to make a real decision as to who to PH. It was either Nook Logan, Kory Casto or Rob Fick. Who the fuck cares which he picked. They all sucked anyway.

If anything, I'd fault Rizzo for much of the problems we're facing. I'm not sure how much say he has in roster construction, but his insistence on keeping Olsen and Cabrera in the starting rotation has cost us the possibility of a win (however unlikely) every time they have started. Also, the choice of which pitchers to promote has also been questionable. WHY IS TYLER CLIPPARD NOT IN THE MAJORS?! And his insistence on keeping players who aren't producing squat up is also seriously questionable. ALEX CINTRON?! Rizzo looks like he's in over his head.

I'm with Will. Knowing who to blame at this point is just such a morass.

There are things I don't like about what Manny's doing. I think his quick hook with his starters is a huge problem, but really how many more games would we win if he did everything I would like?

I guess we could keep blaming Bowden. He picked most of these players. Rizzo hasn't had any time to fix it.

It really makes you want to just stop paying attention, sad to say.
