Jordan Zimmermann Elbow Soreness???

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I blame you Fizzleman! You broke Kerry Wood! One week, and you broke our Flash Jordan! I don't know what you did you him, but if he's broken, you'll pay!!!
  • Update: Based on Chico Harlan's report and listening to the interview with Young Hova on Nats Talk Live, it sounds actually like the team is doing just the right thing here--being "ultra-conservative" with their most valuable (and fragile) asset. Kudos to the Nationals for apparently doing the right thing here.

I agree the Nats are doing the right thing, this wasn't an innings issue or pitch count a la Wood and Prior (For what its worth both those pitchers broke down when Baker was manager, Wood might have had some injuries but he was still effective long past the Riggleman era). In a way this might be a blessing in disguise (as long as it really is nothing). Zimmermann should have been shut down soon enough anyways, now he can still be part of the ML team until the rehab assignment. Also lets give Balester a shot. I'd like to see all of our young arms have some major league games this year.

You're mistaken in your Kerry Wood history. He was ridden into the ground at age 20 by Fizzleman, and had his first TJ and missed 2 full seasons after that. Yes, he pitched well again here or there, but he was never right.

Dusty gets unfair blame for Wood a lot, and he shouldn't.

They skipped his start earlier in the season and he was fine. Plus, you know if they threw Bergmann in for an emergency start he'd pitch 5 shutout innings...

Steven: He missed 1999 with TJ surgery, and from 2000-2004 he was pretty effective. Yes he missed some starts in 2000, but still made over 20 and had a winning record (8-7). I think thats hard to lay on Riggleman's shoulders. After 2004 (again where he missed time) he wasn't able to be an effective starter. I do think it probably had something to do with how Dusty rode him and Prior into the ground during that 2003 playoff run.
