New Podcast on Flores, Guzman, Desmond, and More

Check out the latest chat between myself and Brian Oliver from Nationals Farm Authority. As always, feel free to comment on the podcast page or here or over at NFA, and be sure to subscribe to the podcast on I-Tunes or whatever podcatcher you use.
  • Correction: I erroneously referred to Gerald Laird as a member of the Texas Rangers, and of course he signed with the Tigers last year. As they say, good journalism requires a corrections page!

About your discussion on injuries being discovered later:

I don't think it was a coincidence that these guys had so-called "minor" injuries and played through them causing them to go on the DL: Flores (twice), Zimmermann, Dukes. I think it has to be something about the organization philosophy.

I can't say enough about how much I want Miguel Montero. The "back-up" catcher is the most under utilized spot on most rosters and I think most teams would be better off with two starters each playing 3-4 games a week instead of one guy getting 5-6 starts and wasting a spot on a guy who only plays 1-2 games a week.

Also by having Willingham as an emergency hitter it allows you to use Montero and Flores as pinc hitters on their off days.

What would you give up to get Montero? He's about to get expensive and ARI likely won't carry he and Snyder for the next three years, but they won't have to dump him for salary relief either. I'd say the final deal would likely be Montero for Balester or Martis and a lower level position prospect like Norris (just to name a catcher).

I dunno. I like Montero, but with Norris coming up and Nieto and Killen behind him I'm not sure I'd pay a lot.
