Nationals Sign Horacio Ramirez

The Scats signed Horacio Ramirez to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Syracuse. Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Royals earlier this month after posting a 5.96 ERA in 19 appearances.

He's a classic Rizzo dumpster-dive. The lefty has a 49.4% career groundball rate, but he stinks. He can't miss bats at all, and he doesn't get lefties out any better than he does righties.

Mostly, this is barely worth a post. But still, something about grabbing a Royals cast-off feels like one of those moments that marks a new low. Like when we gave up a homer to Joe Thurston.

I don't see what we have to lose with this point. Maybe they're feeling they're oats with MacDougal. I still want to see Clippard given a big league chance. Also, if we must bring back Kip Wells, another vaunted Royals reject, I'd rather send Colome down than Bergmann.

Ultimately, the dreck at the bottom of the bullpen is not crucial to the big picture.

BTW, I disagree with your Manny criticism on pulling out Zimmermann. He was on a 95 pitch count and I feel that was appropriate after skipping a start.

Well, when you dive into dumpsters, that's what you get. As I recall, HR did have a few good starts for the Braves back in the day... Who am I kidding? This sux that we are signing guys with 6 eras...
