We complain when they get it wrong, so we should give props on great calls like this. With two outs, Ian Desmond took a heads-up, worthwhile risk. But we can see here that he was clearly out.
One other thing--this is exciting, aggressive but clean baseball. Some guys might have blind-sided the defenseless pitcher covering home plate, likely resulting in an injury for Joe Blanton and perhaps Desmond, but the hook slide gave Desmond a better chance to score and was a safer, cleaner way to play.

MASN "X-MO" is closer up and shows a space between the glove and Desmond in the same time frame as picture. Desmond's hand touches base before tag. However, since no one can "see" in X-MO can't fault Umps 50-50 call. Ah, did the game change your mind as expressed in you previous post?
Ah, Steven you're such a brillant baseball mind, aren't you? MASN X-MO did reveal that Desmond was safe, but it's true the umps don't have X-MO.
Since you were clearly wrong about Desmond being out ... why the heck does any one listen to you about any thing else?
Here's a question smart guy, when was the last time you MANAGED a MLB baseball team or played baseball yourself?
You're just one of those moron statheads with a blog ... which as we all know is just like the following old and true saying ...
Opinions (insert the word "blogs") are just like a-holes everyone has 'em.
You're a moron, Steven, plain and simple and I'll bet you never played a team sport in your life.
That's sarcasm, right?
Or is that just Jim Bowden trolling around?
I don't think you're a moron stathead, and I value the insight a passion that you bring to this blog.
I am, however, interested to see your thoughts on whether Mike Morse has any potential value to the team beyond his cup of coffee. He's been a solid pinch hitter so far. Did Rizzo exceed your expectations with the trade?
Padilla, on the other hand, appears to have drowned and I guess he would be Ryan Langerhans if Langerhans was still in our system. So maybe it's a still a wash.
Morse has been ok in a very small sample size, but I think neither Langerhans nor Morse had much value to the team long-term. My criticism with that deal was that I thought that for most of this year Langerhans was a better fit on this roster for the 25th man than Morse. After roster expansion, with Maxwell here, it really no longer matters. And the gripe was never really a very serious complaint.
